5 December: Mathilda

Ever since I re-read Roald Dahl’s Mathilda I wanted to write a song related to it. Mathilda, the ultra-fast-reading super-clever little girl, is a compelling character, even though it looks like Dahl didn’t know how to finish the book (and I think I read that somewhere, too), and it would have been better if all of her powers came from her reading, rather than suggesting that the ability to read is mainly valuable because it points towards the later acquisition of telekinetic capacity. But then I didn’t know how to start OR finish this song or what to put in it so I am in no position to complain.
